ShoKidz is a comprehensive program that teaches, guides and encourages the student to learn every aspect of the entertainment industry. The foundation of the acting training is drawn from several proven and revered methods of acting including Sanford Meisner’s Technique which teaches the actor to “live truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” Director and coach of ShoKidz, Tracy Dunivan, is keen to notice the approaches and applications that work best for each individual student depending on their artistic, intellectual, emotional and practical needs while also guiding them into the collaborative requirements of a brilliant ensemble performance. This personal, almost customized, method of teaching has not only produced some of the most gifted young actors from Texas, but has assuredly given every actor within the program the tools to operate successfully and effectively within society, business and all aspects of their personal lives. To many parents of ShoKidz students, that ability to utilize the lessons learned and growth obtained in acting class, to succeed in other endeavors, is the greatest benefit and return of their investment. As much as the emphasis is on the action and art in front of the camera, it is imperative each student learn and have exposure to the arts and sciences that happen behind the camera including: script writing, production and set design, camera operation, lighting, sound design/recording/mixing/editing, film editing, costuming, hair design, make-up and all other details that go into creating a film, video or television show. In an effort to promote the actors to industry players, ShoKidz students will write original material for showcases that include scenes, monologues and comedy sketches; then, design and create the stage set in which they are presented. Each year The ShoKidz Film Festival will highlight student films created in and out of class. ShoKidz is known for its extended education program of seminars, workshops, field trips, guest speakers/instructors, filmmaking and writing mentorships and the infamous 4-6 week “camp” in L.A.!!!
